Kali Press Wins Gold Medal at IPPY Awards

Cynthia Olsen has been awarded a gold medal in the category of Health/Medecine/Nutrition at the 2012 IPPY Awards for her book Looking Up: Seven Steps for a Healthy & Youthful Midlife and Beyond. This comes 15 years after being awarded the Small Press Book Award for Essiac: A Native Herbal Cancer Remedy.

In his letter to the medalists, Editor and Awards Director Jim Barnes writes:

Among the many great stories that came about during judging this year, here's my favorite: As I was compiling the Health/Medicine/Nutrition category results, and typing in the title of the gold medalist, I noticed on the back cover, "Small Press Book Award Winner," and realized this book, Looking Up: Seven Steps for a Healthy & Youthful Midlife and Beyond, was written and published by Cynthia Olsen, who also won the Health category gold medal in our very first contest in 1997 (back then, both the magazine and awards went by Small Press until we changed to Independent Publisher in 1998.)

"Nearly 800 entries were received in the 27 categories being honored," said the magazine article announcing the results. Cynthia's winning title, Essiac: A Native Herbal Cancer Remedy, still sells thousands of copies a year, and this happy coincidence of a second IPPY medal, 15 years later, had nothing to do with her past win. She just writes and publishes great, award-winning quality books!

Congratulations, Cynthia!
